April Movies 2019
So sorry for the crazy delay here. Life and stuff and blogging is a bit harder than I thought it would be. Excuses...*sigh* Oh well on to my mini reviews
1) Hellboy (4/11/2019)
This movie was okay, but way gorier than I was expecting. I guess I should also say that I love Ron Pearlman and it was hard to be cool with a movie that he wasn't in. That aside I actually like what they did. I felt like I was reading a trade of a comic book. It had a few side stories and characters and it ended with him fighting the big baddy. If you like hellboy or if you like overly gory movies, then this one's for you. I saw it is IMAX and that was overkill for sure. 6 out of 10.
2) Shazam! (4/13/2019)
I will start this with two seperate facts. One I love DC and will see any movie they make because I am confident they will get it together eventually. Two I loved Captain Marvel and I know the weird convoluted history of these two characters, but I have not read any Shazam comics. All that being said, I did like this movie. I had two weird issues. Why wasn't it released at or around Christmas and why does the name Shazam pulls from so many religions and/or mythologies, but then not actually use said powers? Anyway, that is more heavy nerd stuff. I think for a cute kids movie, is was good. The actors did a great job and if this had played at Christmas it would have hit harder. 7 out of 10.
3) Missing Link (4/15/2019)
I went to see this little gem because my roommate loves claymation movies and they had a 3-D showing. Side bar, Dolby at AMC has sort of ruined all other movies for me. Like this 3-D movie felt dark and quiet. That aside, the movie itself was much cuter and funnier than I thought it would be. If you're a fan of Wallace and Gromit or Chicken Run, this movie is perfect for you. 6 out of 10.
4) Avengers: End Game (4/25/2019) & (4/27/2019)
I have many thoughts on this movie and on this franchise, but for the purpose of this blog I will say that I enjoyed the movie. It was very much a wrap up of the last 11 years. I had a few major problems in that people in both showings of the movie ruined it for me with their sobbing. I also have a problem with the difference in treatment of a female lead vs a male lead. Since we are a month past the release of this movie I will say that I found the treatment of Black Widow terrible. Her sacrifice was just as big as Iron Mans and should have been treated with more respect. Right...anyway, this movie was not as good as Infinity Wars, but it was enjoyable and I love all the characters. I hope that Marvel continues to make movies. I will continue to keep seeing them. 8 out of 10.
I love movies and even as we head into spring and summer I will likely keep seeing many in theater. I'll try to update more often and not be a slacker. I am sad to report I did not finish any books in April. So no April book update. May is not looking much better. I might right about some podcasts though. So you all know I am not a total slacker.
All my love,
