March Books 2019

Books read in March of 2019.

I might have been a little obsessed with Captain Marvel this month. Sorry for the delay on posting this. Been very sick.

11) Avengers: The Enemy Within (Captain Marvel Collected Edition No 3) (By Kelly Sue DeConnick) (Avengers Enemy Within #1, Avengers Assemble #16, Captain Marvel #13, Avengers Assemble #17, Captain Marvel #14) Also finished Captain Marvel #15-17

12) Captain Marvel Vo1. 1: Higher, Further, Fast, More (By Kelly Sue DeConnick) (Issues 1-6)

13) Captain Marvel Vol. 2: Stay Fly (By Kelly Sue DeConnick) (Issues 7-11)

14) Captain Marvel Vol. 3: Alis Volat Propriis (By Kelly Sue DeConnick) (Issues 12-15)

15) Captain Marvel & the Carol Corps (By Kelly Sue DeConnick) (Issues 1-4)

16) Captain Marvel Vol 1: Rise of Alpha Flight (By Michele Fazekas, Tara Butters) (Issues 1-5)

Going to just do one blurb about all of the Captain Marvel Comics. I liked reading all of this very much. What I need to do is write about this right after I read them otherwise they all start to blend together. Captain Marvel & the Carol Corps stands out because it is an alternate universe and more of a one shot mini story. I have a feeling I would need to read other comics in this weird run to understand what is happening, but I still liked the story of Carol running her own all bad ass lady group of pilots. I hope to read more of Captain Marvel's adventures and am still in the process of catching up and reading her new run. Goal for next month is to finish the Civil War 2 storyline. I think my favorite of the ones I read this month was Stay Fly. If you are a fan of Chewie the Flerkin, it will likely be your favorite too.

17) Demons Shemons (By K.B. Draper)

This book was a gift and I was glad to read it. If you are a fan of supernatural fighting badass chick that also happens to be a fun and sarcastic lesbian, then this is the book for you. Honestly this book hit every box for me. The main character while rough and tumble still provides all the feels as she falls for the equally badass park ranger. With her best friend Danny and the help of her inner spirit guide AJ battles the forces of Heaven and Hell to prevent the end of the world. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the 2nd in the series.

18) Mister Miracle (By Tom King) (Issues 1-12)

This might be the most beautiful, dark, happy, and sad comic I have every read. Mister Miracle is the world's greatest escape artist. My roommate and I debated quite a bit about the outcome of this book. I won't spoil it in this mini review but I will say that if you want to talk about this hit me up on Twitter @shurri88 because I would very much like to hear what you think happened in this comic. I will say that my absolute favorite part was when Mister Miracle and Big Barda are making their way through a series of traps/security and the whole time are discussing remodeling their condo. The use of panels, along with the flow of the discussion is simply brilliant. If you are a DC fan at all of if you have read any of Tom Kings previous or on going work, you should read Mister Miracle.

19) The Language of Hoofbeats (by Catherine Ryan Hyde)

There are many books about girls bonding with a horse. This book is different than those books in 2 ways. The first is that at no point do you follow the perspective of the girl who loves the horse. Instead this story is told from the point of view of the foster mother and the grumpy neighbor who owns the horse. The other way this one is a little different is that it isn't about the girl learning a lesson, although to some extent she does, but rather it is about an ever changing family adapting to life and an old woman learning just how much life can change at any point without warning. I really enjoyed this book. If addresses the difficulty of being a foster parent and well as the joy and rewards that can be gained by opening up your heart and your home.

Well, it took me almost the whole month to get this done. Seems I do not handle being sick well. I hope to get out at least one more post before this month ends. Thanks for reading my mini reviews. If you have any book or comic book suggestions find me on Goodreads. I am keeping track of my books on there as well.

All my best,
Sharebear
