July Movies 2019

Movies seen in theater only. Total: 2

Gonna be honest, not a great month for movies. That is to say that nothing really called to me. So this will be a quick review.

1) Spiderman: Far From Home (7/2/2019)

Spiderman was never really a fav of mine. That is even back in the day watching the cartoons I was more into Ninja Turtles and X-men. The first live action movies were not really my jam either and I'll be honest I didn't even watch the Amazing Spiderman movies. However the MCU is brilliant at making me see movies I would otherwise wait to see. In the wake of Endgame I was in fact dying to know how poor Peter Parker was doing. He is a sad, cute, very smart dumb dumb. Tom Holland is so good at making me care about Spidey. Also MJ! Loved her so much. Part of the reason Spiderman was annoying was it's treatment of female characters, but this new MJ is fun and not a damsel in distress.

Different train of thought. I had to look up 'the blip' so I could understand it a little better. I know it isn't a key part of the story in this movie, but it sure mattered to me. So if I am understanding correctly. 5 years passed and when Hulk snapped his fingers all the people who disappeared showed back up in the place they were when they were snapped away. I can totally except that Hulk had the forethought to make it so that people showed up someplace safe. Not like in the air if they were in a plane or in the middle of the highway. All of that aside, how do we just gloss over that? I need more about that. Endgame did not cover enough of that 5 years. Right, sorry...

So the bad guy storyline was meh and Mysterio was okay, but boring for me. I like the end though. I don't think it is a spoiler but one of my favorite characters from the OG Spiderman pops in and it is great. I'll give this movie an 8 out of 10, now we wait for the next Spiderman and what the MCU has in store for us.

2) Crawl (7/16/2019)

I am a sucker for natural disaster movies. I will basically watch any garbage movie that is about hurricanes, earthquakes, or tornados. I am also pro creature feature having watched all the Jaws, even the really terrible 3-D one. This movie is a fun combination of the two. It is only a little over the top and they showed way too much in the previews. Overall I enjoyed this father/daughter fight for your life showdown against some crazy gators and a crazy storm. It was a little gory for me, I am kind of a wuss. I mean I will watch it, but for sure going to cringe away. Ending was meh. I get why it ended the way it did, but I was unimpressed with it. Overall I give this movie a 5 out of 10 and hope they do not try to make a sequel, mostly because I am silly and will watch it.

Welp, that is all I saw in July. August is looking pretty good though. Some fun scary movies and a over the top action movie or two. I am starting my October 31 day Halloween/scary movie challenge list and would love some suggestions. This will be my forth year attempting this and I have never actually made it to 31 movies. Maybe this is my year.

All my movie love,
