November Movies 2019

Movies seen in theater: This was a great month for movies. 7 total.

1) Terminator: Dark Fate (11/2/2019 & 11/5/2019)

I really liked this movie. Obviously enough to see twice while it was still playing in Dolby. "Future shit," might be my new favorite line for any question ever asked. I think visually this is one of the best action movies I have seen this year. Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger where both really funny and it is apparent that they enjoyed making this movie. I would be remiss if I didn't say something about Mackenzie Davis and if I am honest she was the main reason I was excited to see this movie and she did not disappoint. *Small Spoiler* I was not at all upset that with what happened with John Connor. Sorry fanboys. Anyway, if you liked the first two Terminator films and if you like some bad ass women, you should for sure check out this movie. 8 out of 10 for me.

2) Doctor Sleep (11/7/2019)

This movie should have came out in October. It would have been a good addition to my scary movie challenge. I will note, I did not read this book before seeing this film and that might have been to its benefit, as I really liked it. Some of the violence was a little brutal and might not be for the faint of heart. The story was fun though and a solid sequel in my opinion. If you enjoyed The Shinning and/or are a Stephen King, fan then this movie will not disappoint. I give it a 7 out of 10.

3) Jojo Rabbit (11/10/2019)

I loved this movie. It was the perfect combo of funny and sad. I do not want to interpret what I think Taika Waititi's goals were or his message was with this movie, but I will tell you how it made me feel. I can totally relate to a kid who is just trying to make sense of and be a apart of what is happening around him. It is easy to idealize someone who is so grand and everyone else loves him, why not you too? Scarlett Johansson was also amazing. I found her character to be one of, if not the, most interesting character in the movie. She is doing what she thinks is right while still trying to be a good mom to her struggling son and helping a girl who likely reminds her of her dead daughter. It is all really heavy, but given to you in this light package that still manages to show you the truth from both sides. I cannot recommend this movie enough. See it. Think about it. Laugh and cry. Do it! 10 out of 10.

4) Charlie's Angels (11/14/2019)

I saw this movie in IMAX because, why not? I also went in with little to no expectations. That being the case I actually kinda liked it. Kristen Stewart was by far the star of this movie for me. She was really funny and a joy to watch. This movie is not a remake but a continuation of all previous incarnations of Charlie's Angels. I think that made it better in some ways, because they could expand the universe and include more women, which I am always in favor of. The story was a little meh and the twist with the bad guys was also so-so, but I liked the characters and would watch more of their adventures. I do not think this movie will hit home with original fans and might be a little too heavy handed for those who just don't like women doing stuff. If you are looking for a fun and silly action movie with attractive women doing cool stuff then you should watch this movie. I think 6 out of 10 is fair.

5) Ford vs Ferrari (11/17/2019)

I am a car person. When I was young I played with hot wheels and matchbox cars dreaming about driving fast. This movie was that personified. While I did not know the story of Ken Miles before seeing this film, I am glad I do now. I also find myself even more in love with the Shelby Mustang. I think for me the big take away from this movie was that it was not pro Ford or pro Ferrari. It did not stomp on creativity, although it might have been a little against extreme assembly line and the rise of capitalism, but that is a whole separate issue to tackle. I think this movie was made to tell the story of two men who loved cars. Who worked really hard to make something amazing and succeed in doing so. All fans of cars and of racing and really anyone who likes a story about being lucky enough to find something to give 100% of yourself to. I recommend seeing this movie. 7 out of 10 for me.

6) Frozen 2 (11/24/2019)

I will admit I saw the first Frozen movie in theater 4 times. I found that I personally related to it and will never tire of its messages of self acceptance and sisterly love. After six years Frozen 2 did not disappoint. I will be honest in saying that it did not hit the same heartstrings that the first movie did, but I still very much liked it and will likely see it again. The music was just as good if not better this time around and the character development made perfect sense. I think the part that got the most was making Elsa and Anna relive their parents death and finding out the reason for it. While I appreciated explaining that their parents did care and were always just trying to help, it still felt a little brutal. I will also say I really liked the mantra of, "Do the next right thing." That is, I deeply related to the idea that sometimes you have no idea where you're going or what you're doing, but you can always take the next step and do what you think is right. I give this movie an 8 out of 10 and hope there will be another one because to me this felt like a middle story and I want more.

I am so sorry this took so long to write. December has been crazy and 2020 is about to bring a whole ton of huge life changes, more on that coming soon. Thank you to all that read these. I really love movies and enjoy discussing them. Going to see Star Wars tonight and I cannot wait. As always hit me up with recommendations or your own thoughts.

Lots of love,
