Part 1: 2019 A Year in Review
I actually did way better at this list than I thought I would.
1) Stop drinking energy drinks.
I had 1 energy drink in 2019. It was a Monster coffee and my coworker gave it to me as a thank you and I have felt so guilty about drinking that one...Then I remember in 2018 I probably drank at least 350 energy drinks and going from that to 1 is probably pretty good. I am going to call this a success. Gold star to me.
2) Eat better.
- I did a little better in this front. With a big push the last 5 weeks of the year. This will have to continue to be a learning process, but I would say that I tried really hard on this one.
3) Really commit to learning Spanish.
- Totally failed at this one. I think when I rewrote my 10 goals later I had moved this one off of the goals for now. I might come back to this later, but for now I have many other projects to work on.
4) Open a savings account.
- Didn't do this...but I did pay off one student loan and my car, so maybe next year will be the time I can start saving.
5) Continue therapy.
- I had a scare midway through this year where I had to switch therapist and I was worried that it would cause me to want to quit. Turned out to be the opposite. I found someone that like even better and who is helping me see my value.
6) Finish my book.
- I did finish book one. That is instead on making one insanely long book I decided to break my book up into two books. Now I just have to decide what to do with book one and finish writing book two. No big deal right?
7) Ask for a raise.
- This is a little complicated. I did get a raise and I am glad that worked out, but there are some big changes on the horizon that I will write more about later. For now I will say that I definitely succeeded at this goal and am glad to move forward in this career I have found myself in.
8) Meet more queer people.
- I would give myself half credit here. I did try and I did meet some new queer people this year. Not quite the community I was looking for but I will keep working on this one.
9) Take a real vacation.
- Guys, I am about to take 12 days off work. What does one even do with 12 days off? I am going to visit family and will enjoy relaxing. I'll admit it is not the vacation I had in mind when I set this goal, but I will give myself half credit for effort and because I made it a whole year without having to travel for anything that was bad or no fun.
10) Fully commit to Roller Derby.
- I think this might be a half success here too. I started strong and got to do some fun tournaments and I do feel more confident in my skills. However it just didn't end up being what I had hoped for. I didn't really feel like I was apart of anything. Just a weirdo hanging out. I am not sure if I will continue with Derby or if I might give a different sport a try. Will let things settle into the new year and reevaluate.
I would say overall 2019 was pretty successful. I did not meet all of my goals, but I did do a lot and I feel that 2020 is promising. I am going to write out a new list of 2020 goals/resolutions and post that shortly. Looking forward to a new year and a new decade.
