2020 Goals and New Years Resolutions

Last year I thought that I had made a pretty lofty list of resolutions and in October I decided to create a list of my top 10 dreams. That list didn't really have a time line. It was more just life goals and dreams I have for myself. I am happy to report I'll be able to update it as 2 of said dreams have been accomplished or changed in nature.

On to 2020. I really hope to start out this year/decade strong and since there are a lot of changes forth coming I think that will be easy to achieve. Since I love a good list and have found that goals really seem to motivate me; here are my 2020 New Years Resolutions

1) Open a bank account and saving account.
  • Bit of a rollover from last year, but as of January 2nd I have in fact opened a real bank account and have every intention of opening a savings account this year.
2) Find a meal plan that works for me.
  • The last 5 weeks of 2019 I did a transformation challenge that included a strict diet. While this diet will not work for me long term I do intend to find one that will. I do not have to meet my goal weight this year, but I would like to keep making forward progress on this front and I have no doubt that eating better will be the key to my success.
3) Attend at least one writing conference.
  • I wrote a book...now what? I think the next step is to see what others have done and decide if this whole writing thing is something I want to give a real go. My writing buddy has agreed to attend said conference with me and I am 100% not gonna back out.
4) Date more.
  • I tend to be a little too all or nothing with searching for a partner. My goal here is to just go on more dates. Worst case I bet I can make friends. Best case I will find the person that I really click and can move forward from there.
5) Expect more out of people.
  • I don't mean that people need to do more or give me more. I mostly mean that I should take a step back sometimes and trust that people are generally okay and it is okay to trust them and expect good things from them.
6) Join a sport.
  • I love my boxing classes and learning how to officiate roller derby has been a lot of fun too, but I really miss playing a sport. Maybe hockey, maybe a softball league. I am not sure yet, but I am going to do it.
7) Live alone for the first time ever.
  • This is a little scary for me. I know at 31 I should probably be less intimidated by the idea, but I have my reasons for being nervous. This is happening...so I guess the resolution is to go in with an open mind and enjoy the freedom that will come with the opportunity.
8) Write at least two things a month
  • Giving myself a number goal here because write more was just not enough. By two things I mean at least one blog post, one short story, or one chapter in Nova Book 2. This is not a hard goal and really I should probably double it, but starting small.

This list is a little shorter than last year, but some of the goals are a bit more lofty and I would rather put a lot of effort into less goals. I have a few small goals to tack on though that are things I just hope to keep in mind day to day. Be kind, to myself and others. Do little things to make myself happy. If I fail to keep on track for a day or even a week, it is okay to start again. The point of these resolutions are not to make myself feel bad or create guilt. They are to help me feel better and to have goals. I am really excited to see what 2020 brings.

Would love to hear any of your goals or resolutions you have for this year/decade. Cheers to 2020.

All my love,

  1. I love this. All great stuff. And this part in particular is super important: "Be kind, to myself and others. Do little things to make myself happy." <3
