Writing Exercise 1

Answer 3 Questions:

1) Why are there so many pineapples?
2) What song is that coming from the speaker?
3) Who left that cabinet open?

Jess lifts another box from the floor to the kitchen counter, pulling the box cutter out of her pocket once she was sure it wasn't too big for the space she was setting it on. Why didn't I label any of these boxes? The thought passes as she cuts the tape in one quick and practiced movement. The deep sigh that escapes her as she looks at its contents is a mixture of amusement and frustration. Why did Jo have to collect pineapple cups? She looks up at her wife, who is attempting to put a bookshelf together. The frustration fades and all she can do is smile. She knew there were worse things to collect.

Feeling eyes on her Jo turns to catch Jess pulling one of her cups from a box. She winks at her wife, who laughs, a slight blush rising to her cheeks. Still got it. She looks back at the mess of parts in front of her. This project calls for music. She moves to turn on the speaker, connecting it to her phone. "What are you in the mood for babe?" Flipping through her playlists. Gentle arms wrap themselves around her waist and she can't help the smile that plays across her lips. "Hmm?"

"You know what song I want." Jess whispers softly in her wife's ear. Smiling at the shiver she feels as Jo nods finding their song and hitting play. Jo pockets her phone turning in her wife's arms as the first rifts of guitar begins to play.

(Look at me, you think that I'm trying to fight ya, but I'll always be on your side ya.)

Jo leans in, planting a kiss on Jess's lips, before quickly pulling back with a grin, "Want to help me with this? We're much better as a team."

(So whenever you're losing, I'll celebrate ya, appreciate ya. I'll get you up on you're feet.)

"I see what you're doing?" Jess raises an eyebrow, as Jo feigns innocence.

(And I'll cheer your name girl. Cause I'll always be on your, I'll always be on your team.)

Jo wiggles her eyebrows and knows that she's got her. Jess busts out in laughter. Its sound filling the still mostly empty room. "I love you." She says softly, mostly to herself.

"Okay, okay." Jess catches her breath, still chuckling. "You win this round. I will help you, but you have to help me find a place for all your cups." She smiles as Jo beams.

"Deal!" She pulls Jess in again this time kissing her forehead.

A small ruffling sound distracts the two women. Jess looks up to see their cat Sammie one second away from pushing a glass right out of the cabinet. "Oh no! Sammie!"

*CRASH*

Jess begins to pull away to grab the cat or clean up the mess that was just made. "Oh Jo. I'm sorry. I forgot to close the cabinet." But Jo gently holds onto her arm pulling Jess back towards her.

"It's okay." She smiles gently. "I have too many of those silly things."

Jess relaxes and pulls Jo into a hug. "Yes, you really do." Jo laughs gently, the sound filling her with pure joy. "I love you too by the way."

Hope this makes sense. I am not great at writing from both perspectives. This was fun. If anyone has more writing prompts to share I would be glad to read them.

Thanks so much,
Sharebear.
