January Movies

Movies that I saw in theater in January. Total 5.

1) Bumblebee (1/8/2019)

I liked it. It felt much more like the original Transformer movie. The people mattered and learned and grew. Also, who doesn't love Bumblebee? It still had plenty of action and the graphics were good. I did love the sound track too. I think the girl dealing with grief was really interesting and I did not mind that in the end there was not some weird forced romance. Overall I give a solid 7 out of 10. Would recommend seeing.

2) On the Basis of Sex (1/13/2019)

I have a feeling I could write a ton about this movie and the topics it concerns and how much of a badass RBG is, but I will keep this short. If you are a woman, you should see this movie. If you care about any women at all, you should see this movie. If you find law and politics both interesting and frustrating, you should see this movie. It is one tiny piece of this amazing woman's life that forever changed the roles of women. I don't know if I can say how important Ruth Bader Ginsburg is to the US or to the world, but I know that I think she is amazing and I loved this story. 10 out of 10 for me. Would 100% tell everyone I know to see it.

3) Ralph Breaks the Internet (1/20/2019

This is a cute look at friendship and as someone who spends way too much time on the Internet I also enjoyed all the little easter eggs. I will also admit that I love Disney movies and will give almost all of them a try. The bits with the other princesses are great. This movie is a great lesson in insecurities and dealing with how friendships/relationships can grow and change over time. 8 out of 10. Would recommend for all children and adults alike.

4) Christine Special Showing (1/22/2019)

The Alamo Drafthouse does this special called Terror Tuesday and I am a sucker for Stephen King books and movies. I had not seen this one before. It was released originally in 1983 and was directed by John Carpenter. Given the time it came out and the limited effects, I actually really liked this movie. The practical effects with the car where pretty good and although I didn't find it scary at any point, the idea of a demon car that kills people is always fun. I give this movie a solid 6.5 out of 10. If you haven't seen it and like Stephen King, you should give it a go.

5) The Upside (1/26/2019)

This based on a true story movie had an amazing cast. Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston were great together and Nicole Kidman was also very good. I liked the story, but admit the ending left something to be desired. That being said, I guess real life it like that. You don't always get a super happy or crazy sad conclusion. Sometimes the story that needed to be told is not a beginning or the end, it's right in the middle. I took my whole family to this movie and we all agreed it was good. With our vary varied interest and taste that is saying something. 8 out of 10 and I would suggest it, although maybe not a must see in theater.

Overall I liked all the movies I saw. I recently got the AMC Gold card or whatever it is called. So it is like 20$ a month and you can see up to 3 movies a week. So I feel like I have to see at least two a month to make it worth it. I love going to movies so that shouldn't be hard. Probably going to post something like this at the beginning of every month. Happy February!
